Activision making cuts to its music genre

Activision have recently released a press release confirming that there has been a noticeable decline in the popularity of music games and as a result will be disbanding any further development on the Guitar Hero series.

"At the same time, due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011."

These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences."

This could also mean that DJ hero could be part of this change, which wouldn't be surprising given its lack of success, which can be measured by the number of surplus units/cut price offers in shops.

Although its been a genre that has soared in popularity, with consumers spending sometimes upto £150 to get the game and instruments, I am sure Activision and the others have done well out of it.
